How to become your Best Friend

We often try our best to be friends with everyone whom we come across. Being friendly with others is a good thing. I believe that there should be no space for hate of any kind. Just imagine a world where everyone is a friend of everyone else! Well, it’s not possible. One must not live in a dream world. Facts are facts. But still being friendly with others isn’t difficult at all. But have you ever even tried to be your best friend?

In our lives, we come across so many people. Some we like and some we ignore or want to forget. But one person with whom we live 24 hours a day is our selves. Why can’t we love ourselves the same way we want others to love us? I have never seen anyone who doesn’t want other people to love and appreciate them. Whether they do the same with others is a different story altogether.

Always remember to love yourself, to appreciate your capabilities, your views towards life, your dreams, your achievements, your work, your dressing sense… in short… everything about you. If you don’t love yourself then how can you expect others to love you? Also, it shouldn’t be this way! You don’t need the approval of anyone else. You must approve of your self.

Life is short. This is a fact. But if we do things just the right way, the way we want them to be and with love and affection, even our short lives are long enough.

How to become your best friend?

There are no rules as such, but a few things you must always keep in mind. Let’s discuss this very briefly.

People make mistakes

Always remember… that people make mistakes and so do you. People, including me, start feeling bad whenever they make even the simplest of mistakes. Unless it is a crime we are talking about, every mistake can be mended or at least forgotten. We just can’t live happily if we keep dragging the baggage of guilt on our shoulders throughout our lives. Let it go. Give it a try at least, and I am sure you will be successful in doing so.

Self Care is important

We often ignore small things like taking care of our hair, skin, or hands and feet. I know it sounds feminine, but a body is a body, male or female, everyone should take care of his/her body. As it is rightly said, Our body is the only house we live in throughout our life. We must take utmost care of it. I don’t say that you have to get self-obsessed in doing so, but simple tasks like using a moisturizing cream, applying rose water, washing hands with mild soap, oiling your scalp once in a while, and so on should be on your list for sure.

There is nothing wrong with taking care of your health. It must be your top priority. Drink plenty of water and natural juices, a cup of your favorite tea is refreshing, to say the least. A walk in the garden or any place which is away from pollution is also a great thing to do daily. There are so many things you can do to take care of yourself. You just have to decide and see which ones you like the most and feel most comfortable doing.

Appreciate Yourself

Another thing that very few people do is that they don’t appreciate themselves as much as they should. Self-obsession is a different thing. That isn’t healthy at all and I won’t say that you follow it, even once. But what you must do is appreciate the things you do, your work, your craft, your way of helping others, and so on. I don’t think that there is anything wrong with doing so.

If you are a father or a mother, you must be doing many things daily, like cooking meals, going to the office, buying stationery for the kids, etc. But you do it like a job. Isn’t it? I know that it is more or less like a job because you need to do it daily, but why not put some excitement into it by appreciating your daily chores? You can certainly feel good that you are doing such great things like making healthy and tasty food for your family. This happiness is self-created. Do not keep yourself away from it.

Do things for yourself

Life, and especially family life, is full of compromises. We all have to make some compromises here and there. But does that mean that you can’t do anything that you like? Certainly not. If you have a hobby like gardening or crafts, then go ahead and do it in your free time. Even the busiest people find time to do things that they enjoy doing.

We generally make excuses for not doing things we want to do. I want to build a small garden on the balcony of my apartment, but I find excuses for doing so, like, the space is too small, the pots are too costly, I forget to water the plants, and so on. Though I have now a few plants growing, what I wanted to do in the initial stages, I haven’t done that.

Update: Now I have my ground-floor apartment. But the problem here is that there is car parking right in front of it with no space at all for making a garden. But this hasn’t stopped me at all. I asked the people living above me (2 apartments) if they have any problem if I take the same space as their balconies above me and create a small area for plants. They were nice enough and agreed at once. Now I have a few pots and a table to place them on.

Conclusion

I need to focus more on my life and the things that make me happy and keep me happy too. Life is not always taking care of others. Yes, we do take care of our near and dear ones, but being a good friend, rather than a best friend of your own is most important. People might leave you someday, but you will always live with yourself. So start keeping yourself happy from today onwards.

That’s all I want to say in this post. I hope it helped you in some way. Do let me know in the comments below. And if you have any more tips then I would love to hear from your side.

Thank you.
